RESURRECTION BEFORE REVOLUTION IN CHINA
Dear Brothers, Sisters and Friends,
Did you know that since mid-February Chinese authorities have arrested, arbitrarily detained or forced into disappearance more than 100 human rights defenders, activist and lawyers? Yes, that’s right -- Chinese authorities have stepped up their efforts to persecute Christian human rights defenders, activists and lawyers.
The Chinese authorities have arrested, put under house arrest, arbitrarily detained or forced into disappearance more than 100 human rights defenders, activist and lawyers. Some of them, such as Jiang Tianyong from Beijing and Liu Shihui from Guangzhou, are Christians.
This crackdown was the Communist Party’s panicked response to the “Jasmine Revolution” in the Middle East and is the most severe tightening of controls in China since the August 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. However, as ChinaAid’s 2010 annual report on government persecution of Christians clearly shows, this is but the latest in a trend of growing religious persecution in China. (Read the report)
An alarming new development in 2010 was the use of hooligan or mafia tactics, as well as more incidences of abuse and torture. Another new trend was government-approved Three-Self churches being targeted for persecution, clearly demonstrating that any church is at risk if it does not submit to government control ─ whether registered and approved by the government or not!. Maintaining control is clearly at the center of China’s policy-setting agenda. Although the Middle East revolutions have fostered fear among China’s leadership of similar popular protests in China, we at ChinaAid know that what China desperately needs right now is a real resurrection before a revolution.
China’s persecuted Christians are the foot soldiers at the front lines of this battle. From internationally championed Christian lawyers like Gao Zhisheng and Dr. Fan Yafeng (pictured here) to every elderly uneducated peasant believer across China who is hauled in for police questioning, each is paying a heavy price for living out the belief that China can be transformed by Christ’s resurrection power.
You can make an Easter donation right now to support and encourage these Christians and human rights defenders under attack in China. (Make your gift now)
Your gift will go towards meeting the needs of imprisoned believers and their families, churches that lost their meeting site to the bulldozer and victims of abuse and torture.
Christ's Easter resurrection is the firm foundation for our hope in the final victory!
Thanks, Bob
